A Welcoming Bookshelf and a “Well-read” person in making..

Books are one of the major source of knowledge.  A person who is well-read gets a head start in social gatherings, can dynamically take decisions and has an active mind.

I remember clearly, when I was accepted for the architecture course at my university, my mom took me meet her friend, who was also an architect (much senior) from the same university.  She told me just one thing – browse books, magazines and digests, no matter in what subjects.  I did not realize then, the power of having books in my hand just to flip through the pages.  But now after all these years of some intensive reading and flipping through magazines, both, my eyes are trained to absorb things which suits me and inspires me.  I have started this with my son – make him sit with piles of books for 20-30 minutes daily, even if he does not read them, but just to go through them, flip the pages and feel the paper in your hand.  In this digital age, it gets difficult to distract this generation from ipad, laptop or Wii, but still a habit is formed and I am sure he is going to thank me for that….someday.

An active mind – because reading trains your mind to think, to exercise the mind and hence makes your mind receptive to the information around.  It also gives you confidence at social gatherings.

Decision making – different types of books exposes you to various fields of knowledge and information.  The sharing of the knowledge and discussion leads you to in-depth knowledge in that field.  Hence better the perception and understanding of the situation, smarter and intelligent decisions are being made.

Public speakers – although there is huge team behind them to orchestrate their speeches and debates.  But still having knowledge about just that particular topic simply does not help them to win, but it is the knowledge gained through their extensive reading on that subject, surges them as a winner.

Start getting familiarizing with literature, in whatever subjects you are interested in and motivates you.  It is not the number of books read but being able to review the meaning and a tale from the book will boost your confidence and take you one step towards being well read.  Start building up your library.  With this note I leave you with some pictures of bookshelves, which really make me sit and read few lines – each day.
